What it's like
LIVEHOLIC was created as a physical home for the rock culture that Skream! and Gekirock cover online and in print, so the lineups lean toward loud, guitar-driven music. A listing describes a high-powered sound system built around JBL line arrays, tuned for heavy sounds. At around 180 people the room is small enough to feel close to the stage.
The venue is in the same building as the former Yaneura (now the bar Rokudemonai Yoru), and the official site says LIVEHOLIC shares the building with the ROCKAHOLIC music bar one floor down. The two businesses are independent, but you can generally go between the live house and the bar, which is handy for a drink before the doors open or after the set.
How to get there
LIVEHOLIC is a short walk from Shimokitazawa Station, on a block that also holds other live houses. Look for the Louis Building and head up to the 5th floor.
- Shimokitazawa Station (Odakyu Line and Keio Inokashira Line): about 2 to 3 minutes on foot
Several other venues are within a minute's walk, including SHELTER and CLUB Que, so it's easy to plan an evening around more than one room.
Tickets and the door
Ticket details are listed on each show's page on the venue's website, and many shows use e+, LivePocket or other ticket sites. Each show page on this site links to the official page when one is available. If you're new to the system, our first-timer's guide explains Adv/Door prices and reservations.
- Drink fee: A separate one-drink fee is collected at the entrance. Our live house guide explains how it works.
- Bags: The official site lists 15 coin lockers at ¥300 each. With only 15, they can run out on busy nights, so bring only what you need.
- Last train: Check your last train home before you go. Most trains in Tokyo stop around midnight.
