Live Report: 大ニューモアニッポン at BASEMENT BAR & THREE, Shimokitazawa

A report from the fourth 大ニューモアニッポン on October 17, 2026: nine acts across two Shimokitazawa rooms, a bingo game with prizes from the performers, and a closing set by さらば帝国.

I went to 大ニューモアニッポン again this year. It was the fourth edition of the event, and I was there last year too. It is a multi-band show at BASEMENT BAR & THREE in Shimokitazawa.

The two rooms are next to each other on the same basement floor, and the event used both. If you have never been, our guides to BASEMENT BAR and THREE explain how to find them.

What makes this event different

The nine acts are all different, but the day still feels like one event. The bands have their own personalities, yet the whole thing has a strong sense of unity as an event.

The most unusual part is the bingo game. The prizes come from the performers themselves. It is a rare thing to see at a live house, and it only works because of the trust and affection people have for the organizer, おっぺけりょう子. In Japan, independent promoters (イベンター) often put their own taste and personality into the events they run, and this is a very good example.

The bingo game

When I was a kid, it felt like there was a bingo game whenever some kind of event was held. As you get older, those games become rarer. So playing bingo again after such a long time was a treat, and I could feel the excitement in the room rising as the game began.

What I liked most was that you didn't need to get a bingo to enjoy it. Hearing the numbers announced one by one was fun enough, whether or not you ended up with a prize from a performer.

I didn't win anything myself. But the people who did got prizes from artists they admire, and they received them with very happy faces.

Getting around the two rooms

BASEMENT BAR and THREE are right next to each other, and there is a five-minute changeover between sets. If you stay for the end of a set in one room and then walk over, you can usually make it in time. If there is a band you really want to see, though, it is wise to move a little early.

While a band is playing in one room, the other room is rehearsing. That means you can sometimes catch rehearsals of bands you don't normally get to see, which turned out to be surprisingly fun.

If you get tired of standing and watching, you can also relax in whichever room isn't hosting a set at that moment.

It is a long event that starts in the afternoon, so being able to make good use of both rooms is one more thing that makes it a great event.

Highlights

I can't cover every act, so here are a few that stayed with me.

座布団忍者 opened the THREE side as the topper (the first act on that stage). Their songs have a psychedelic edge, yet the melodies feel somehow nostalgic. The center vocalist has a bewitching presence, but it is not only them: all three members at the front can sing. The female vocalist, who sings while playing a complex bass line, has a wide vocal range and brought out the band's charm to the full. Their page is here: 座布団忍者.

ハシリコミーズ are reliably hot live. They have a cool presence on stage, and as the topper on the BASEMENT BAR side, they got the event off to a big start. The room was packed with energy. You can find their page on our site at ハシリコミーズ.

Qoodow traveled from Kansai for the event. They began with some difficult, complex songs, and then moved into mostly released material. The way they went from 「穴」 into the final song was striking, and by the end I thought, "what a beautiful live show." See Qoodow.

さらば帝国 closed the day, and they were overwhelming. The floor was full of heat and flying sweat. Recent songs such as 「GOLD」 and 「渚でロックンロールショー」 (Nagisa de Rokkunrōru Shō) already sound like they belong in the set. In the MC, you could feel their love for the organizer. The encore was a given, because the set was that good. But they told us they hadn't prepared a song for it, so they played 「渚でロックンロールショー」 for the second time that day. The heat never cooled, and the event ended on a great performance. Their page is here: さらば帝国.

Final thoughts

Even without a bingo prize, I left very satisfied: the atmosphere of the room and the sets of each band made this a very rewarding event.

I expect it to come back next year, so I'm looking forward to the announcement.

Ready to go?

If a multi-band event like this sounds like your kind of day, an afternoon show is an easy way to hear several acts in one go.
