Who is 青春群像録?

What follows is our editor's take.

青春群像録 is a four-piece band that formed in a high-school light-music club in 2022. They're a seasoned act, having won the Grand Prix at JYOJI ROCK, a contest where bands such as ルサンチマン, クジラ夜の街 and リュックと添い寝ごはん have previously placed. After a single available on streaming services and a venue-exclusive single, they released their mini album 『変わらずに変わっていく』 (“Kawarazu ni Kawatte Iku,” roughly “Changing While Staying the Same”) in 2026. Their first tour final, a two-man show with sidenerds at Shimokitazawa ERA, sold out, and the band is riding a wave of rapidly growing popularity.

I happened to go see them at Shimokitazawa ERA in May 2025, on a whim, and the impression I got that night never left me. They've become a band I'm quietly very attached to.

Every time I see them live, I'm blown away by the beautiful interplay of the two guitars and by how solid the rhythm section is behind them. “sheep,” from their latest release, has been in heavy rotation for me lately. But if you're going to talk about 青春群像録, I'd say start with “神愛 / shenai.” In the chorus, when the voice rings out “inochi ga~” (“life...”), that overwhelming pull gives me goosebumps and makes my eyes well up, every single time.
