Who is Potomelli?
Potomelli is a fluid project led by Hironori Momoi. Momoi is a jazz drummer, but in Potomelli he steps to the front: he writes all of the music and lyrics himself and concentrates on being a singer. According to the official site, he sings freely and connects scenes with a wide range of musicality, drawing on his varied background.
The project began after Momoi returned to Japan following six and a half years in New York. Alongside his work as a drummer, he set out to put himself at the front with one idea in mind: songs that only he can sing and make, and that have meaning because he is the one singing and making them. Potomelli started with a changing lineup of musicians, so the band’s members are not fixed.
If you are used to seeing a drummer behind the kit, this is a chance to hear the same musician as the voice and the songwriter.

About the venue
Ruby Room is a live bar and club in Dogenzaka, Shibuya, at 2-25-17 Dogenzaka (道玄坂2-25-17 カスミビル), on the 4th floor of the Kasumi Building. Listings describe a compact room with a semicircular stage, a good sound system and a DJ booth. It sits on a side street a few minutes’ walk from the Shibuya scramble crossing, and it has been part of Shibuya’s music scene since the early 2000s.
Because it is a small room, you will be close to the stage. If you have not been to a venue like this before, our first-timer’s guide explains tickets, drink fees and the usual flow of the evening.
