What it's like

MARZ is one of Shinjuku's best-known mid-sized live houses. The room is open across the basement 1st and 2nd floors, which gives it a high ceiling and an airy feel that's unusual for a live house. It uses a large-hall-class sound system (called FUNCTION-ONE) and a motorized screen for lighting and visuals. Besides bands, the venue welcomes DJs and idol acts, so the genres and crowds can change a lot from night to night.

With about 300 people, popular shows can fill up. Arriving near the Open time helps if you want a spot near the stage.

How to get there

MARZ is on the Kabukicho side of Shinjuku, a few minutes from the stations. The venue's directions from JR Shinjuku Station:

  1. Leave through the East Exit and follow the railway tracks on your left to Yasukuni-dori.
  2. Cross to the Kabukicho side and walk along the street beside Seibu-Shinjuku Station, heading toward Okubo.
  3. When you see the Tokyu Kabukicho Tower on your right, turn right at the next intersection.
  4. Walk about 10 meters. The venue is on your left.

If you're coming from Seibu-Shinjuku Station, it's even easier, about a minute on foot. Kabukicho is a busy nightlife district, so keep an eye on your belongings and ignore street touts. Because landmarks change over time, search for "Shinjuku MARZ" in your map app as well.

Tickets and the door

Ticket details are listed on each show's page on the venue's website. Many shows use e+ or LivePocket, and many bands also take reservations directly (called torioki, where you give your name and pay at the door). Each show page on this site links to the official page when one is available. If you're new to the system, our first-timer's guide explains Adv/Door prices and reservations.
